Amphitrite Point lighthouse is no longer being declared as surplus, according to an announcement made by Ucluelet council at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

About two weeks ago Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced 1,000 lighthouses as surplus and stated they could be acquired by interested parties.

Council met with government officials in front of the lighthouse earlier last week to assess the lighthouse surplus situation.

"The DFO found out it could not sell [lighthouses] that didn't belong to them," said Coun. Bill Irving.
