An organization representing about 275 Tofino and Ucluelet businesses is standing up for staffed lighthouses on Canada’s west coast.
The Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce’s board voted this week to write the Senate Committee for Fisheries and Oceans, asking the federal government to keep lighthouses staffed.
Gord Johns, the chamber’s executive director, said the board decided to hold an emergency, electronic vote on the issue Wednesday.
“By Wednesday evening, we had unanimous support from the board to push forward and send the letter,” said Johns.
