Saving Medway Head lighthouse

Community support is high in the Port Medway area, following the Medway Area Communities Association’s (MACA) application to purchase the Medway Head Lighthouse from the Department of Oceans and Fisheries (DFO).

In May, the DFO announced they had reassessed lighthouses all across Canada as part of the new Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act. Due to their poor condition, the lighthouse building would be put up for sale, while the Coast Guard would continue to own and operate the lights that are still used as guides to mariners.
