Cape Beale

Cape Beale lightstation marks the headlands at the entrance to Barclay Sound and Trevor Channel on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. An extensive and dangerous reef extends half a mile off Cape Beale in every direction. Trevor Channel is a major shipping lane for freighters and tugs that navigate the Alberni Inlet to load forest industry products. Cape Beale conducts water sampling for the Institute of Ocean Sciences.

Principal Lightkeeper Bio

I have been a lightkeeper since 2001, doing relief keeping until 2003 where I started full time at Scarlett Point before moving to Cape Beale in 2007. I was born and raised in Port Hardy, but have lived in various places. My husband and I purchased a sailboat a few years after high school and lived on it throughout Georgia Strait for eight years. I'm an avid beachcomber and enjoy the arts.

Assistant Lightkeeper Bio

I came to lightkeeping in 2009, doing relief at Egg Island, Carmanah, Lennard Island, Trial Island and then Cape Beale. After a 20 year career at a Shellfish Marine Hatchery in Qualicum Beach this is a great new look at the ocean and weather patterns . I love being a Lightkeeper, and feel we are a valuable part of the coastal communities and many users of our reports. I enjoy gardening , crafts, music, birds ,beachwalks with my dog , and keeping the station shipshape.
