Bonilla Island
Located on the north west tip of Banks Island in Hecate Strait. Bonilla is a sector light marking the north east extreme of Hecate Strait and identifies the entrance to major channels leading to Prince Rupert and Kitimat. Depended on heavily as a landfall light by people travelling from the Queen Charlottes to coastal area of Prince Rupert and Kitimat. It is an essential weather station for both mariners and aviators and was selected as a MAREP site in 1986. Bonilla participates in IOS (Institute of Ocean Sciences) water sampling and seismograph services.
