About Us

The Canadian Lightkeepers Association is a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia on Sept 09, 2010 (Society Act of BC Number S-57187).

The Association was founded by Chatham Point lightkeeper and Lightkeeper's Union President Steve Bergh, shortly before his untimely death in August 2010.

The Society is under the direction of Chatham Point principal lightkeeper Alice Woods, former Fishers Union president Garth Mirau, naval architect Tad Roberts, environmental activist David Boehm, former Cape Mudge lightkeeper and Strathcona Regional District director Jim Abram, Cape Mudge principal lightkeeper Dennis Johnson, and sailor and environmentalist Ivan Bulic.

The Canadian Lightkeepers Association promotes awareness and understanding of Canada's requirements for staffed lightstations. Specifically, we aim to:

  • assist and support lightkeepers and the public in dealing with federal, provincial and municipal governments, Government of Canada departments, agencies and Crown corporations, quasi-judicial boards and other regulatory agencies on issues and questions related to Canadian lightstations and lightkeepers;
  • liaise with other associations, organizations and industries;
  • record and preserve the history of Canadian lightkeepers and lightstations.
